Job Description

Seeking a full-time Director of Music Ministries at Dalton First United Methodist Church, a large and vibrant church in the North Georgia Conference. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing meaningful worship through the leadership of music. This includes responsibilities for organizing all aspects of children, youth, adult, and handbell choirs and providing musical instruction for church daycare and preschool programs. Primary directorial duties include preparation of music for two weekly traditional worship services. Position reports directly to the Senior Pastor and collaboration with the ministerial staff, church staff, and volunteers is essential. He/She will also work in concert with the Worship Committee to enhance the overall worship experience.

Our Sanctuary has a 3 manual and pedal pipe organ with 50 ranks. The organ, Opus 16, was built in 2016 by Parkey OrganBuilders and utilizes a number of stops from the 1982 Austin organ. The Great/Pedal Divisions are unenclosed behind the new facades with the Swell and Choir Divisions enclosed in separate expression boxes.  The organ was part of the renovation to the Sanctuary completed in 2016.

A four year college degree with a concentration in music is preferred. Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience working in Christian-based musical programs. Commensurate skills and experience may be considered. Musical excellence is encouraged and expected. Supervisory qualifications are recommended as is a joyful appreciation of volunteer musicians. Salary is negotiable commensurate with qualifications and experience.
